A break from turquoise waters to pristine snow! Life is good!
Last week I had a chance to join a group of 12 friends on a ski trip in the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area in the Wallowa Mountains. We camped at 2300m in yurts and skied pristine powder.
The trip started with a 3km tow behind a snowmobile and a 6.5km ski tour into our yurts; 1 kitchen and 2 sleeping yurts. We towed and packed in all our supplies for the 4 day trip, and the yurts were equipped with basic camping necessities including firewood and stoves.
As temperatures dropped to -20°C at night stoking the fire was a must. If the fire wasn’t tended to for more than 3 hours your water bottle would freeze! We slept in multiple layers and 2 sleeping bags.
McCully Creek just next to the huts was our source of water, toilets were outdoor holes in the ground with great views, and liquor was drunk off readily available icicles.
Most importantly we toured and skied fresh lines every day!
