Although generally the fall is decent for windsurfing in Southern Ontario, these last couple weeks have been below average. I still managed to squeeze in 5 days of windsurfing at some of the classic spots around here including: Sherkston Shores on Lake Erie, the Toronto Windsurfing Club at Cherry Beach on Lake Ontario, and both Beaverton and Willow Beach on Lake Simcoe.
Although there weren’t many hours on the water, I did my best to mix some workouts with doing other sports including playing tennis, beach volleyball and mountain biking.
On one hand it reminded me of how much fun can be had even when it’s not windy, while on the other it reminds me how lucky I am to spend so much time in places where windy days are the norm.
Although there wasn’t much wind on Sunday this past weekend, I still hosted a clinic at the Toronto Windsurfing Club, where we had a great turn out of around 30 students. Thanks to everybody who came out and to the Toronto Windsurfing Club for organizing. I also want to congratulate all the windsurfers who finished the Mammoth Marathon race on the weekend!
At the moment I’m sitting at the airport in Toronto waiting for my flight to Germany for the last and biggest PWA World Tour stop of 2016 which will be on the island of Sylt, on the North Sea, September 30th – October 9th. I haven’t windsurfed a real lot the last couple weeks, but combining all the hours I spent on the water in Hood River with the few sessions and other sports I’ve been doing in Toronto, I feel fresh and ready for this last event. Plus I just can’t wait to get on the water and windsurf!
I’m coming off my second best career finish at the last World Cup in Spain where I took 5th place, so my confidence is high, and my goal is to once again finish in the top 10 of the world in Sylt, and hopefully defend or improve on my current 7th place in the world rankings. The wind forecast is looking good, so it should be a good contest on the North Sea! Stay tuned to my social media accounts for updates from the event, and of course my website for a final summary and inside scoop on my blog!
